We’ve all been there – that moment when a family member asks, “what do you want to do today?” It can be a loaded and dreaded question, one that makes you wince, knowing what’s coming next. Invariably the answer is either, “I don’t know,” or, depending on the size of the family, you get a slew of responses, none of them remotely similar.  The good news is there is a solution to this problem. It is one guaranteed to please families of all sizes and ages and is right here in North Georgia.

Funopolis Family Fun Center, located in Banks County, right off US Highway 441, has entertained and enthralled countless families since opening its doors in 2008. In fact, it has done such an impressive job of providing a wide range of kid- and parent-pleasing activities that it has become a centerpiece of the Banks Crossing community, while amusing visitors from across the state and points further afield thanks to its proximity to Interstate 85.

Featuring both inside and outside attractions, Funopolis offers go karts, bumper cars, bumper boats, two climbing attractions, escape room, miniature bowling, laser tag, inflatable zone, miniature golf, water wars and even amusement park rides, including the Tornado, Pirate ship and MaxFlight a roller coaster simulator. In October Funopolis turns into “Fearopolis” offering different haunted attractions.  If you prefer arcade games over attractions, Funopolis has over 80 arcade games and a large redemption center where families can exchange tickets for prizes.  Funopolis also has the Funopolis Café offering a variety of delicious foods so a family can make a day of it. Funopolis offers the kind of fun rarely seen in one place and certainly unique to north Georgia.

“We have loved every minute of this adventure,” said Funopolis co-owner Mary Greenwood, also known as Mrs. Fun. “There is nothing better than seeing a family have fun together or seeing the smile on a child’s face when they are totally caught up in the moment, just having fun being a kid. This is what we envisioned when we started Funopolis. However, to create such an experience, it takes hard work and great employees. We appreciate all the effort our staff has put in to create a fun and safe experience for our guests, as well as all the families who have visited us and keep coming back.”

“We love being part of the Banks Crossing community, and it’s neat to offer something so integral to the area and something so different from what you’ll find almost anywhere else.” Says Mrs. Fun

As you may imagine, dealing with the global pandemic has not been easy for a business so reliant on bringing families together in one place. Funopolis was closed for 3 months in 2020. Since reopening in June 2020, Funopolis has worked hard to maintain a safe environment while continuing to provide the same fun experience for which they have become known. They have done so by requiring social distancing, limiting capacity, and taking guest temperatures upon entry. Besides being required to wear masks, employees have also been continually cleaning and sanitizing rides and games consistent with CDC and State guidelines. These actions have allowed customers to maintain the same enjoyment for which Funopolis is known, knowing that their health is foremost on the staff’s mind.

“As tough as life has been this past year, we feel people are ready to get out and forget about their cares for a while,” says Brent Greenwood, Funopolis co-owner and known as Mr. Opolis.  “We feel fortunate being able to offer families in the area the opportunity to experience some good old-fashioned fun for both young and old.”

With daily specials through spring, such as half-priced minigolf on Tuesday, half-priced games on Wednesday and half-priced go-karts on Thursday, there are plenty of reasons for parents to enjoy fun at a rate that will not break the bank. And for those wanting to plan a special event, Funopolis also specializes in birthday parties for all ages and offers special rates for groups, schools, and churches.

Certainly, it has become a big part of the Banks Crossing experience that continues rolling out fun for all involved and one that emphatically answers the question: “What are we going to do today?”
